Figure's head, Brett Adcock, released a video showing the company's humanoid robot Figure 03 climbing stairs in a fully autonomous mode, without remote control or a predetermined action sequence. Climbing stairs is considered one of the most challenging tasks for humanoid robots because it requires constant balance, precise coordination of limbs, and environmental awareness. The company recently updated its artificial intelligence model Helix System 0 AI, which previously relied on proprioception but now also processes data from stereocameras to create a three-dimensional view of surroundings while tracking the robot's own position in real time. The AI model underwent extensive reinforcement learning in simulated environments with random terrain, and was integrated without additional calibration, improving the robot's movement on stairs and uneven surfaces. Figure has increased production of Figure 03 to one robot per hour and delivered over 350 units, targeting applications in factories, warehouses, construction sites, and maintenance tasks. However, Figure has not disclosed details about the test conditions or how the robot handles more complex scenarios, and the result, while promising, does not yet prove reliable, safe, and regular performance in unpredictable environments where error costs are high.
