Can AI Predict Tonight's Dreams? New Study Says Yes

A large-scale study using AI has shown that dream content can be predicted with high accuracy. Italian researchers analyzed dream journals from nearly 300 volunteers, revealing that dreams are influenced by personality traits, daytime habits, and even sleep quality.
Scientists have long debated why some people have vivid, movie-like dreams while others experience dull fragments. A recent large-scale study using AI proved that the content of our dreams can be predicted with high accuracy. The study, published in Communications Psychology, involved nearly 300 volunteers who kept detailed journals of their waking thoughts and dreams. Neural networks analyzed thousands of texts to uncover hidden patterns. Dreams were found to be more bizarre, emotionally intense, and socially interactive than waking thoughts. Personality traits such as tendency to daydream, interest in dreams, sleep quality, and visual memory influenced dream features. During COVID-19 lockdowns, dreams showed increased emotional intensity and themes of restrictions, with more social interactions as the brain compensated for lack of real contact. Over the following years, as stress decreased, dreams became less bizarre and more positive, supporting theories that dreams help regulate emotions.
