In the laboratories of Omar Abudayyeh and Jonathan Gootenberg, large-scale genetic screenings are conducted, turning thousands of genes on and off to understand how cells respond to changes. The goal is to identify changes that transition cells from a state of senescence (damaged, aging-related) to a youthful state in tissues such as skin, hair, and muscles. Co-Scientist assists at two stages: first, it generates hypotheses by scanning tens of thousands of scientific papers and proposing over 20 new, plausible genetic factors for testing; laboratory experiments confirmed several hypotheses, and the recommended factors successfully returned cells to a more youthful state with improved functionality. Second, Co-Scientist accelerates the analysis of results: typically, matching screening data with scattered scientific literature takes a researcher up to six months, while Co-Scientist completes this task in a few days.
