AMD plans to update its Instinct AI accelerators and Helios rack solutions annually. The MI500 series with HBM4E memory arrives in 2027, promising a 2000x performance boost over MI300X, while MI600 follows in 2028 on CDNA Next architecture. Helios 500 racks in 2027 will feature Zen 6-based Epyc 9006 processors and Pensando networking, with Helios 600 in 2028 using MI600 and Zen 7-based Ferrara CPUs.
AMD intends to refresh its Instinct AI accelerators and Helios rack solutions every year. The company will launch the Instinct MI500 family in 2027, featuring HBM4E memory and 2nm process, with optical interconnects alongside traditional copper. AMD claims MI500 will be 2000 times faster than the 2023 MI300X, up from a previous estimate of 1000x. MI600 is scheduled for 2028 on the CDNA Next architecture, competing with Nvidia's Feynman architecture (successor to Rubin) also expected in 2028. The Helios 500 rack in 2027 will include energy-efficient Epyc 9006 Verano processors (Zen 6) and Pensando Como network controllers with Monza network processors. Helios 600 in 2028 will feature Instinct MI600 accelerators and Ferrara CPUs (Zen 7), with Pensando Palma and Levanzo networking solutions. Current Helios AI racks are used by customers including Anthropic and Microsoft.
