Web Search Now Generally Available on Amazon Bedrock for Foundation Model Grounding

At the AWS New York Summit 2026, AWS announced the general availability of Web Search on AgentCore, and now extends this with Web Search on Amazon Bedrock. The tool is a server-side built-in capability that grounds foundation model responses in current web knowledge, eliminating the need for third-party providers, external APIs, and extra security reviews. It uses Amazon's web index spanning billions of documents, combined with a knowledge graph to answer factual questions with high confidence. Web Search performs semantic snippet extraction to return only relevant passages, reducing token usage and latency. Enablement is a single parameter in an existing OpenAI-compatible API call, requiring no additional SDKs or orchestration. The tool operates entirely within Amazon Bedrock's infrastructure, offering zero data egress by default. It integrates with AWS CloudTrail for auditing, but query text and search results are not logged. Web Search is generally available in the US with in-region query handling in us-east-1, us-east-2, and us-west-2.
