Russian Scientists Edge Closer to Creating a 'Brain' for AI

Scientists from Rosatom's scientific division, including the Research Institute of Molecular Electronics and the Zelenograd Nanotechnology Center, have developed a prototype of a neuromorphic processor. Unlike traditional processors that use separate memory and processing units, this chip uses memristors—components that combine memory and computation, similar to biological synapses. The design allows for massive parallel processing and learning on the chip, drastically reducing energy consumption. According to the researchers, the neuromorphic processor could be over 1,000 times more energy-efficient than current AI chips. The prototype is currently being tested, and the team aims to create a full-fledged 'brain' for artificial intelligence systems in the future.
