NVIDIA, Indosat, and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) launched Indonesia’s first university-based AI technology center, the UGM Indosat NVIDIA AI Technology Center (NVAITC), in Yogyakarta. The center, established under Indonesia’s AI Center of Excellence initiative, will provide researchers and students access to enterprise-grade accelerated computing, AI software, and NVIDIA Nemotron open models. Three initial projects focus on healthcare (TB screening), agriculture, and natural disaster response.
The UGM Indosat NVIDIA AI Technology Center (NVAITC) was launched in Yogyakarta by Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, NVIDIA, and Universitas Gadjah Mada. It is the country’s first university-based AI technology center, established under Indonesia’s AI Center of Excellence initiative. The center will be powered by NVIDIA’s full-stack AI platform and Indosat’s sovereign GPU-as-a-service platform, GPU Merdeka, giving researchers and students access to accelerated computing, AI software, open source, pretrained models, and development frameworks. NVIDIA’s Marc Hamilton emphasized the company's commitment to providing Indonesian talent with NVIDIA Nemotron open models. Three initial projects focus on Indonesian challenges: eNose-TB uses AI to screen tuberculosis by analyzing breath samples, SmartAgri applies multimodal AI and edge computing for precision farming, and Tech4Disaster builds a geospatial AI platform using accelerated computing to improve disaster response. Indonesia sees this as a step toward AI sovereignty and economic growth.
