Alibaba sells Qwen AI as a ticket to more leisure, instead of fear of job loss

Alibaba is marketing its new AI model Qwen 3.8 with a positive message: the AI works, humans pursue hobbies. This contrasts with fear-based communications from competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic. Alibaba simplifies the real impact of AI on the job market, but a positive scenario is better for a listed company.
Alibaba is using a different tone in marketing its new AI model compared to OpenAI or Anthropic. Instead of threatening people with job losses, a marketing video encourages people to give up their jobs: the Qwen 3.8 model works, and the person pursues hobbies. Alibaba thus distances itself from the fear-based communication of other AI companies that like to emphasize how many jobs will soon disappear. Alibaba simplifies the actual impact of AI on the labor market just as much as the doom scenarios of its competitors. However, a positive scenario suits a listed company much better. OpenAI and Anthropic have also recognized this and are adopting a much milder tone. So far, there is no evidence that AI has already significantly impacted the labor market or even productivity. It looks different on the financial markets.
