Yandex registers legal entity for medical AI assistant to help doctors

Yandex has registered a separate legal entity 'Yandex Med' for developing artificial intelligence technologies in medicine, according to Vedomosti citing the Unified State Register of Legal Entities. The company was created for a pilot project of an AI assistant for doctors. The pilot project was presented in late June in partnership with the Moscow Department of Health. The service is designed to automate routine work of doctors in Moscow clinics: it can transcribe conversations with patients and draft visit protocols, find information in a medical knowledge base, and summarize data from electronic medical records. The final decision on diagnosis and prescriptions remains with the doctor. The authorized capital of 'Yandex Med' LLC is 10,000 rubles, with software development as the main activity. Elizaveta Popova has been appointed general director. According to Boris Zingerman, CEO of the Association of AI Developers in Medicine 'National Base of Medical Knowledge', registration of a legal entity is insufficient for professional medical use, as Roszdravnadzor requires some AI software to be registered as a medical device of the third (maximum) risk class. Yandex does not yet have such registration. Boris Volpe, president of MT-Integration, noted that limitations for medical AI relate not so much to model capabilities but to data availability and regulation, since medical data is personal and requires special protection. Yandex previously developed medical services, launching online consultations 'Yandex Health' in 2016, which was sold to Genotek in September 2024. In September 2025, the company acquired 9.33% of 'Diagnostics at Home', a service developing solutions for remote examination of respiratory and ENT organs.
