Lynx founder Stan Larroque claims to have seen Valve's new VR headset and says it will be released in 2026, not 2025 as previously rumored. On X, Larroque praised the design, calling it 'pretty cool,' but declined to share more details, saying he would be equally upset if Lynx's next-gen design leaked. He later told Road to VR that he heard mass production and availability are scheduled for 2026. Valve has not officially announced any new VR headset yet. Larroque also said that Valve's headset will not compete with the upcoming Lynx headset, as they target different markets and price segments. Lynx, a French startup, had planned to ship its first mixed-reality headset to Kickstarter backers in 2023, but production stalled due to funding issues. The company is now working on a new mixed-reality headset based on Android XR, with a reveal still pending. Valve's headset, codenamed Deckard, has been rumored since 2021 when dataminers found clues in SteamVR code. In late 2024, 3D models of new VR controllers codenamed Roy were discovered, and leaker Brad Lynch reported they were being prepared for mass production. The codenames reference Blade Runner characters. Early in 2025, a leaker claimed Valve Deckard would launch by the end of 2025 at $1,200, but those rumors now appear outdated.
