Tencent Does Not Pursue Versatile Capabilities, but Focuses on End Devices: Vice President Lin Songtao — Marvis Targets System Operations

Tencent Vice President Lin Songtao stated that the AI agent Marvis will not compete in versatility, but will focus on system operations on devices. Marvis has already shown impressive results: DAU exceeded 300,000 within two days, with a seven-day retention rate of 54%. Unlike other agents, Marvis operates on the device side, completing tasks faster and more efficiently through local processing.
At the WAIC Tencent AI Application Innovation Forum, Tencent Vice President Lin Songtao introduced the AI agent strategy of Marvis, which focuses on system operations rather than universal capabilities. Launched on May 20, Marvis exceeded 300,000 daily active users (DAU) within two days, and its seven-day retention rate was approximately 54%. According to Marvis head Cai Jiantao, among user scenarios, local files account for 44%, PC hardware management for 28%, browser tasks for 18%, and applications for 16%. Only 6% use Marvis for information retrieval. Marvis focuses on PCs, Mini PCs, and AI Boxes, rather than mobile phones, as the latter have limited memory and battery capacity, preventing the running of large models. In collaboration with the Hunyuan team, Tencent plans to release a cluster of models for end devices. Lin Songtao emphasized that the key metric for Marvis is the number of tasks actually completed, not DAU or session count. Marvis also uses visualization in the form of six working horses to make agent operations transparent and trustworthy. The Application Treasure team is also developing a mobile tool called Vibe Coding Toast, which helps create applications. In the future, Toast and Marvis may be integrated.
