South Korea's National AI Computing Center Breaks Ground, Led by Samsung SDS
South Korea officially started construction on its national AI computing center on August 3, aiming to boost AI competitiveness and expand AI services. The project, with a total investment of 2.5 trillion won, is expected to be completed by 2028.
On August 3, South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT held a groundbreaking ceremony for the AI computing center at the Sorasido data center park in Haenam County, Gwangju, South Jeolla Province. The project, known as the 'AI expressway,' involves a total investment of 2.5 trillion won, covers about 48,000 square meters, and plans to build a two-story building, with completion expected in 2028. Last year, a consortium led by Samsung SDS, including NAVER Cloud, Samsung C&T, Samsung Electronics, Kakao, KT, Gwangju Metropolitan City, and the Southwest Coast Enterprise City Development Corporation, won the project through open bidding.
