Snap excludes AI-generated videos from Spotlight recommendations to keep the platform a place for genuine creativity, while content edited with Snap's own AI tools remains allowed and is labeled. LinkedIn has introduced a 'AI slop' report button to combat repetitive AI-generated posts.
Snap is excluding AI-generated videos from its Spotlight recommendations, as low-quality and repetitive AI content increases online and Spotlight should remain a place for real creativity. Content edited with Snapchat's own AI tools is still allowed and receives transparency labels. The number of Spotlight contributors has risen by more than 120 percent, but Snap does not disclose whether AI played a role. Social media platforms will have to continue defending themselves to stay relevant. According to a Kapwing study, 21 percent of YouTube Shorts are already AI-generated, and the situation is likely similar on Instagram and Facebook. OpenAI's social video app Sora failed spectacularly. LinkedIn is also flooded with AI slop and has introduced its own 'AI slop' report button, which is vulnerable to abuse and requires competence from users reporting.
