OpenAI releases desktop ChatGPT Voice mode with computer skills

OpenAI on Thursday updated its ChatGPT desktop app to support ChatGPT Voice, allowing users to speak commands to control AI agents and perform tasks. The feature uses OpenAI's new ChatGPT-Live voice models launched earlier this month. ChatGPT Voice works with both ChatGPT Work and Codex, and can tap computer use skills to look up websites and apps. On macOS, with Appshots, users can let the app access screen content including alt-text. Unlike the smartphone version, which had smoother conversations but could not take action, the desktop update enables dictating complex multi-step commands and responds when input is needed. In a demo, a developer used one voice command to create a thread, make a pull request, and find a bug's root cause. Users can also access ChatGPT Voice in Codex from the iOS app via remote access. Separately, Anthropic updated its voice mode for Claude, using Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku models to complete tasks in Gmail, Calendar, Slack, Notion, and Canva.
