OpenAI top executive Brad Lightcap announced his departure from the company to start his own venture, as the ChatGPT creator prepares for an IPO amid growing demand for AI technologies. CEO Sam Altman expressed support for future collaboration.
Brad Lightcap, a senior executive at OpenAI, announced his departure to launch his own startup. This occurs as the company behind ChatGPT prepares for an initial public offering amid rising demand for AI technologies. Lightcap said he had been reflecting on the next phase and believes several important innovations need to be built correctly to navigate this new period. In response, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman wrote he is glad to work together on what comes next. In April, Lightcap moved from COO to head of special projects. He previously worked with Altman at Y Combinator and joined OpenAI in 2018. OpenAI stated that Lightcap's responsibilities had been transferred over recent months, so his exit will not materially impact the company. His departure follows that of Fidji Simo, who was seen as a potential successor to Altman.
