OpenAI has completed a secondary share sale of approximately $7 billion, allowing current and former employees to sell shares at a valuation of $852 billion. The tender offer was planned since the $122 billion funding round in March, aiming to reduce pressure on employees waiting for liquidity ahead of a possible delayed IPO.
OpenAI has created several more multimillionaires after completing a secondary share sale worth approximately $7 billion, as reported by Bloomberg. Current and former employees were able to sell shares at the current valuation of $852 billion. The tender offer had been planned since the funding round of $122 billion in March, and is intended to ease pressure on employees awaiting liquidity before a potential and delayed initial public offering. In October 2025, OpenAI had already organized a share sale of $6.6 billion, in which around 75 employees each received up to $30 million. The growing wealth in the AI industry also has side effects: in San Francisco, high salaries are driving rents up so much that even top earners struggle to find apartments, and wealthy families are sending their children to AI private schools with fees of up to $75,000 per year.
