Nvidia disclosed in a regulatory filing that its stake in SpaceX was worth $21 billion at the end of the second quarter, making it the sixth-largest investor in the company. The stake has since decreased to $17.2 billion due to a drop in SpaceX's share price.
Nvidia, benefiting from the AI boom, has become more active in investing in other companies. According to a filing with US regulators, at the end of the second quarter Nvidia held 122.8 million Class A shares of SpaceX. While the current price of these securities does not exceed $140 per share, at the end of June it reached $170.86, valuing Nvidia's stake at $21 billion. However, its value has since fallen to $17.2 billion. This is the second-largest stake held by Nvidia in terms of value, after Intel, whose shares are currently worth $22 billion, down from $30 billion at the end of Q2. Nvidia is the sixth-largest investor in SpaceX. Elon Musk, who heads SpaceX, owns shares worth $850 billion, and Alphabet is second with $78 billion. In January, Nvidia invested $10 billion in xAI, which merged into SpaceX in February, giving Nvidia the right to own shares in the parent company. The combined market capitalization of SpaceX and xAI reached $1.25 trillion. Elon Musk recently stated that SpaceX will use only Nvidia components for its computing infrastructure, citing them as the best for training AI models and inference, and next year SpaceX expects to receive a large batch of Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin accelerators.
