NVIDIA Joins NSF State and Regional AI Hubs Program to Expand AI Research and Education Across the US
NVIDIA
NVIDIA is participating in the U.S. National Science Foundation's State and Regional AI Infrastructure Hubs program, which aims to expand access to advanced computing, data, software, and expertise for AI-enabled research and education. The program will support state and multistate consortia of colleges and universities, sharing AI computing resources and preparing students for the AI economy. NVIDIA's involvement builds on its past efforts, including the partnership with the University of Florida and contributions to the NAIRR pilot.
NVIDIA has announced its participation in the U.S. National Science Foundation's State and Regional Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Hubs program, which launches today to expand access to advanced computing, data, software, and expertise needed for AI-enabled research and education. The program supports state and multistate groups of colleges and universities to strengthen America's AI ecosystem, in partnership with private industry, philanthropic organizations, and state and local governments. Regional hubs will help institutions share AI computing resources, accelerate scientific discovery, and prepare students for the AI economy. The program allows flexible approaches, including on-premises infrastructure, cloud computing, or combinations, tailored to regional needs. This initiative resembles the public-private partnership between NVIDIA, cofounder Chris Malachowsky, and the University of Florida in 2020, which made UF the first true AI university and now serves as a national model; since 2020, UF has grown to over 300 AI-focused faculty and received over $511 million in AI research awards since 2017. NVIDIA has also been a leading contributor to the NSF-led National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) pilot program, on which today's announcement builds. The program emphasizes pairing infrastructure with learning pathways, including degree programs, certificates, and stackable credentials, to build the AI workforce. NVIDIA will provide training resources and technical guidance to support these efforts. The hubs aim to connect research, workforce development, and regional growth, with sustained collaboration among government, higher education, philanthropy, and private industry considered essential.
