Microsoft merges Copilot and Copilot 365 into a single app, retiring three features

Microsoft plans to merge its consumer Copilot app and the Microsoft 365 Copilot app into a single unified app, aiming to reduce confusion from juggling two separate services. The new app will support sign-in with personal, work, or school accounts and will let users connect email, calendar, and cloud services. Microsoft 365 subscribers will retain higher usage limits and can access Word, Excel, Outlook, and other apps directly from Copilot. Depending on current usage, users will see changes in the app's appearance or functionality; chat history and content will be migrated for those using both apps. Microsoft promises guidance through the transition and separate work and personal environments for professionals. Three features will be retired after August 18: group chats (messages, conversations, images inaccessible after that date), podcasts (no longer creatable or accessible, but downloadable before), and Deep Research mode (no new reports, but existing reports accessible; only Microsoft 365 Premium subscribers can continue generating in-depth reports via the Researcher tool).
