Meta's Glimmer AI model offers glimpse into Zuckerberg's personal intelligence vision

Meta released Muse Glimmer, an open-weight model designed to power AI agents locally on consumer hardware, offering the clearest picture of CEO Mark Zuckerberg's vision of "personal superintelligence." The 30-billion parameter model is essentially an open version of Meta's most powerful closed model, Muse Spark, released in April. Glimmer's weights are under the permissive Apache 2.0 license, allowing developers to download and modify them. It is designed to run AI agents that perform multi-step tasks like calling tools, writing and debugging code, working with files and screenshots, executing extended workflows, on a Mac or PC with a single consumer GPU. It supports text and images and was trained across more than 100 languages. Meta envisions use cases like managing schedules, drafting messages, organizing files, with data processed on-device for privacy. It is always-on and works with or without internet. Zuckerberg reiterated his vision of distributing superintelligence widely for personal empowerment, but Meta still keeps its more powerful model, Muse Spark, closed-weight, distinguishing between open and controlled models. Glimmer offers an early indication of where Meta draws the line between AI for users to own and more powerful intelligence under company control.
