Meta Quest: Major Update Introduces New User Interface

MetaMeta
The first major Quest update in months introduces the Navigator user interface and a 3D effect for Instagram photos. Update 77 rolls out from May 19 to Meta Quest 3, 3S, Quest 2, and Pro users, potentially taking up to a week or longer to reach everyone. The update also includes features like following windows, spatial audio controls, and experimental Bluetooth LE Audio support.
Meta Quest's Update 77, rolling out since May 19, brings a completely new user interface called Navigator, which replaces the previous universal menu and aims to simplify access to apps, quick actions, and settings. The app library becomes central, allowing users to access recent apps and pin up to ten apps. The new system bar shows Wi-Fi status, time, battery, and settings access. Navigator initially rolls out to selected users via the Public Test Channel (PTC) and will gradually become available to all over the coming months. Meta states that Navigator is designed for spatial computing and is the start of a larger Horizon OS overhaul. Additionally, Meta is testing an AI algorithm that automatically converts flat Instagram photos into stereoscopic images with depth effect when viewed on Meta Quest, initially limited to a few users and rolling out to Quest 3, 3S, 2, and Pro in the Instagram app. Other changes include the ability to have windows follow the user through the room instead of staying anchored, the option to disable spatial audio for specific apps and windows, experimental support for Bluetooth LE Audio devices, a text-to-speech accessibility feature, and a new key combination for Meta AI in the USA and Canada to prevent accidental activations.
