Meta has launched the beta version of its AI agent Muse Code for macOS and Linux, which works through the terminal and uses the Muse Spark 1.2 model to perform complex software development tasks in large projects. Alongside the launch, the company introduced the Muse Spark 1.2 model, which received improvements in code generation, bug search and fixing, project structure analysis, and support for long-running workflows. According to 9to5Mac, the model is available both inside the new tool and through the Meta Model API for developers with expanded global availability. Unlike ChatGPT Codex and Claude Code, the new product does not yet have a dedicated graphical interface and is distributed as a console application. Meta claims that Muse Code can independently plan changes, write code, verify its own work, and manage background AI agents that continue performing tasks throughout the session. The tool maintains a local event log that records model calls, use of built-in tools, action confirmations, and changes made, allowing recovery after failures. It also includes commands for generating work plans and stress-testing them. The launch continues Meta's AI product line development: in July the company released Muse Spark 1.1 with improved agentic and multimodal capabilities and introduced a paid API for developers. Earlier, Meta abandoned the Llama brand in favor of Muse Spark, using the new model to expand Meta AI app features and image generation functions in its services.
