Google's AI language model Gemini now has over a billion monthly active users, making it the fastest Google product to hit this milestone. Despite the success, the rollout of the most powerful model, Gemini 3.5 Pro, faces delays due to internal conflicts and testing.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that the AI language model Gemini has surpassed one billion monthly active users (MAU), making it the 14th Google service to reach this milestone and the fastest to do so. Josh Woodward, Google's vice president responsible for Gemini, added that the technology now generates 150 million images daily, is particularly popular among students, and has over 100 million users on iOS alone. These figures refer to the app and web interface, not all places where AI is integrated. Gemini, introduced in December 2023, is the successor to Bard and is integrated into numerous Google products, with more being renamed to reflect their place in the AI ecosystem. In a few weeks, Google Assistant will be shut down, replaced by Gemini. However, despite the success, the launch of the most powerful model, Gemini 3.5 Pro, is still pending; it was missing from updates released in July. Media reports suggest that conflicting interests are hindering development, as the company integrates AI into increasingly diverse products. Google says the Pro version is still being tested and will be released when ready, though it was originally expected in June.
