Google may integrate AI-based conversation transcription and summarization features, previously exclusive to the Pixel Recorder app, into Android under the name Conversation Capture. The feature, internally codenamed Auris, will deeply integrate with Android and Gemini, providing summaries, transcripts, and suggested actions after important conversations. It appears in the code of Android System Intelligence and may debut with the upcoming Pixel 11 smartphones.
According to Android Authority, mentions of Conversation Capture appear frequently in the code of the latest version of the Android System Intelligence app. The feature, internally codenamed Auris, largely mirrors the capabilities of the Recorder app but has deep integration with Android and Gemini. Its purpose is to provide 'summaries, transcripts, and suggested actions after important conversations, such as meetings, conferences, and more.' Conversation Capture will have its own shortcut in the quick settings panel. Once a conversation is processed and its summary is prepared, the user receives a notification, after which the transcript and summary can be sent to Gemini; transcripts include participant markers. Data can be stored both on-device and in the cloud, with end-to-end encryption. Google assures that it will not gain access to this data unless the user permits it. Journalists were unable to activate the new feature, and it may debut with the Pixel 11 series smartphones, which are expected to be unveiled next week.
