Google Home Speaker with Gemini Now Available in Germany

Google has announced that the Google Home Speaker, its first speaker developed from the ground up for the Gemini AI assistant, is now available in Germany starting Tuesday. Priced at 120 euros, it is sold in the Google Store as well as at MediaMarkt and Saturn. Germany had been excluded from the initial launch on June 25, despite the speaker being offered in 18 other markets including Austria and Switzerland; Google never gave a reason and only said it would be available 'soon.' Since Google discontinued production of the Nest Mini and Nest Audio, German customers temporarily had no smart speaker available in the Google Store. The new Home Speaker is the first device from Google designed entirely for Gemini, which understands natural language better than the Google Assistant, can process multiple commands in one sentence, and maintains conversation context. Gemini has already replaced the Google Assistant on older speakers and displays. However, many AI features require a subscription: free conversations with Gemini Live require a Google Home Premium subscription costing 10 euros per month, though buyers who purchase the speaker before September 30, 2026, receive six months of the subscription free. The hardware includes a 58mm broadband driver for 360-degree sound, improved bass compared to the Nest Mini, three far-field microphones, a hardware switch to disconnect them, and a light ring indicating Gemini's status. It uses a quad-core chip with A55 cores at 2 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 4 GB flash storage, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and supports Thread 1.3 and Matter as a smart home hub. Two speakers can be paired as a stereo pair, or configured as a surround system with the Google TV Streamer. The enclosure is made of 3D-knit fabric with at least 37% recycled material, available in black and white. Google has also shown reference designs for smart home devices, enabling other manufacturers to build their own Gemini speakers.
