Google DeepMind and Isomorphic Labs have announced a joint approach to bioresilience, focusing on preventing AI misuse and accelerating preparedness for outbreaks. Google DeepMind and Isomorphic Labs have released a joint strategy for bioresilience, addressing the dual goals of preventing threat actors from misusing AI models and empowering governments, scientists, and biosecurity experts to build a resilient world. Over the past 12 months, they have advanced more than 15 partnerships with government bodies and research groups. Key AI systems include AlphaFold, which mapped nearly all known protein structures; Isomorphic Labs' Drug Design Engine (IsoDDE) for precise biological navigation; and AlphaGenome for genome function. The companies follow a four-step safety process for models like Gemini, and are adapting SynthID watermarking for DNA screening. For detection, AlphaEvolve optimizes metagenomic sequencing algorithms for faster outbreak detection. For response, trusted researchers get access to Google DeepMind’s AI for vaccine design, while Isomorphic Labs formed a focused unit to rapidly deploy its drug design engine for medical countermeasures against pandemics and AI-related risks. This work is part of a broader CBRN risk management approach under the Frontier Safety Framework.
