Google Search indexed public links to user chats with Chinese AI bot DeepSeek, exposing personal messages and uploaded documents. The incident affected only those sessions that users chose to share, but the data became accessible to a wide audience.
Journalists from Kommersant and RBC have discovered that Google Search has indexed user chat sessions with the Chinese chatbot DeepSeek. The open search results included chats for which public links were created, encompassing personal messages to the bot as well as uploaded work documents. DeepSeek warns that anyone who obtains such a link can read its contents and recommends checking for confidential information. Although no private data has been found in the open chats so far, the service allows users to initiate new AI queries and continue the conversation via these links. There is no access to other users' accounts or private query history. In 2023, a similar incident occurred with ChatGPT: Google indexed the same type of public links due to a bug in an open-source library.
