Cursor makes its biggest India push yet with localized pricing ahead of SpaceX acquisition

Cursor, an AI coding startup, introduced Cursor Start, a subscription priced at ₹649 per month (approximately $7) specifically for India, well below its standard $20-per-month Pro subscription. This launch marks Cursor's biggest push into India, which is already its third-largest market globally and has its highest concentration of power users, with the user base more than tripling over the past year. Simon Green, head of Asia-Pacific and Japan, said India's technical competency and engineering talent made it the first market for localized pricing. Cursor Start includes access to Cursor's Composer 2.5 and Grok 4.5 models, with higher usage limits than the free tier, along with cloud agents, the iOS app, plugins, Model Context Protocol support, hooks, and skills. It excludes frontier models from providers like OpenAI and Anthropic, as well as features like Bugbot, Auto Mode, Automations, and the Cursor SDK. The plan is billed in rupees and supports UPI, with measures to deter VPN access. Cursor hired its first salesperson in India and is expanding in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. The pricing is designed to be commercially sustainable, built around Cursor's own models. The move comes over a month after SpaceX agreed to acquire Cursor in a $60 billion all-stock deal, expected to close in Q3, with SpaceX's Starlink presence in India potentially aiding expansion.
