Bluesky's AI Assistant Attie Evolves Into Open Research Tool for Social Networks

Bluesky's AI assistant Attie, which previously allowed users to build custom feeds without coding, has gained a new feature called Quests. This feature lets users ask open-ended questions to research information and news across the Bluesky social network and any app using the AT Protocol, collectively called the Atmosphere. Bluesky, which saw its user base grow from 20 million to 40 million in a year last October, now has about 45.6 million accounts, and is seeking ways to grow and monetize. Attie was launched in March as a separate product for designing algorithms, creating feeds, and potentially building apps. Bluesky's chief innovation officer Jay Graber said the tool aims to help users find truth and reduce the barrier to entry for using the AT Protocol. The new Attie experience is in beta, with users invited from a waitlist. Despite some user resistance to AI, Bluesky raised $100 million in funding in 2025 to experiment with Attie and other services like premium subscriptions.
