AMD challenges Nvidia with new rack-scale AI system Helios

At the Advancing AI conference in San Francisco, AMD unveiled a new rack-scale system called Helios for the largest AI labs. The system is aimed at competing with Nvidia's solutions and has already received orders from OpenAI, Microsoft, Meta, and others.
At the Advancing AI conference held in San Francisco, AMD CEO Lisa Su unveiled the Helios rack-scale system, designed for training and running the most demanding AI models. According to the company, Helios is the highest-performance AI rack solution in the industry and will be deployed by leading AI companies at gigawatt scale. Customers already planning to use the system include OpenAI, Meta, Oracle, Anthropic, and Microsoft; the latter, according to CEO Satya Nadella, will expand Azure infrastructure with Helios. Additionally, AMD and Anthropic announced a strategic partnership to deploy up to two gigawatts of GPUs through the new system. Also introduced was the Venice-X processor for data centers, expected to launch in 2027. Lisa Su predicted that by 2030, the AI accelerator market will reach $1.4 trillion, comparable to the size of the entire current semiconductor market, with GPUs accounting for the majority share due to their programmability.
