Several record labels, including Universal Music Group, Sony Music, and Warner Music Group, have proposed rules regarding the eligibility of songs created using artificial intelligence for inclusion in official music charts. The proposal requires that tracks be "substantially human-created" and not raise concerns about streaming manipulation. It goes beyond the initiative by the Recording Industry Association of America, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, and the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists for standardized labeling of AI-generated music, adding requirements for compliance with copyright laws and the terms of service of AI services. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry has supported the labels' proposal, but no chart organization has yet adopted these rules. The precise definitions of "substantially human-created" and the criteria for manipulation remain vague, and requests for clarification from Sony, Universal Music Group, and Mom+Pop Music have gone unanswered.
