Over 1,000 Global AI Practitioners Jointly Call on US Government to Support International Cooperation, Establish AI 'Brake' Mechanism

On July 28, 1,134 researchers and practitioners from more than ten frontier AI companies including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google jointly signed an open statement titled 'Controlling Frontier Technology.' The statement points out that leading AI companies may be close to achieving automated AI research, posing a risk that AI capabilities could develop faster than human understanding and control. However, due to intense competitive pressures among companies and countries, no single entity is willing to unilaterally slow down. The signatories request the US government to support an international cooperation to develop necessary technical and governance tools to consciously control the pace of frontier automated AI development.
