OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Health for All US Users, Claims Model Superiority Over Clinicians

Starting March 27, 2025, OpenAI is opening access to ChatGPT Health for all users in the United States, allowing them to connect medical records and health data. During a briefing, Ashley Alexander, OpenAI's vice president of health products, stated that the company's models "are capable of reasoning at a level surpassing clinicians." However, Karan Singal, head of health, urged "softening" this claim, noting that only individual studies (e.g., from Harvard and Stanford) indicate such superiority. Earlier, on March 26, a pastor from Florida sued OpenAI, alleging that ChatGPT gave him "extremely dangerous medical advice" that caused him to delay treatment for pulmonary embolism. ChatGPT Health will run on the latest OpenAI models, including the recently released GPT-5.6 Sol, which the company calls its "most powerful model for health." Users can ask questions about their medical data directly in the main chat, without switching to a separate tab. ChatGPT requests permission to use data; encryption is provided both in transit and at rest, and information from the Health section receives additional protection. Users can manage the types of data they connect: post-visit notes, prescriptions, test results, medications. Support is provided for connecting data from healthcare institutions, Apple Health, Weight Watchers, MyFitnessPal, and Function. OpenAI emphasizes that the service "complements, not replaces, professional care." The feature is available to all ChatGPT users aged 18 and older on the web and iOS (free, Go, Plus, Pro) in the United States.
