Meta says AI is making it easier to build new apps — and more are coming

During Meta's Q2 earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company has new apps in the works, leveraging AI to accelerate product development. Recent launches include a Marketplace seller app, a Facebook Groups app, a vibe-coded gaming app, a photos app from Instagram, and an AI bedtime stories experiment. Meta has historically struggled to launch successful standalone apps, with past efforts like Creative Labs and NPE Team resulting in shuttered apps. Now, Meta cites LLMs as key to faster development and scaling. Threads, with 500 million monthly active users, serves as an example of AI-driven growth through content recommendations. CFO Susan Li noted that LLMs improve ranking and recommendations by understanding content and generating better training data. All Reel and Feed posts on Instagram are now processed through an LLM for topic and tone analysis. Meta is also developing LLM-native recommendation systems for scaling new apps. Zuckerberg hinted that new consumer products will be released soon.
