Kamaz: Fully Driverless Trucks to Hit Roads by 2028

KAMAZ plans to begin operating trucks in fully autonomous mode in 2028, said Sergey Nazarenko, chief designer of innovative vehicles at the company. Currently, vehicles with autopilot are operated by a logistics operator who can intervene in difficult situations, for example, to exit a traffic jam or bypass an obstacle. According to Nazarenko, intervention is episodic. Tests of autonomous trucks are already underway on public highways: since 2023, three KAMAZ heavy-duty tractors have been running on the M-11 Neva highway between Moscow and St. Petersburg, and in 2025, tests were conducted on the Central Ring Road in the Moscow region.
