Google says it fixed more Chrome bugs in June than over the past two years, thanks to AI

Google has reported fixing 1,072 security flaws in the last two versions of Chrome, both released in June 2024. This number surpasses the total of 1,036 bugs patched in the previous 23 versions over two years. Google credits its internal AI tools, including Gemini large language models, for enabling this exponential increase in bug detection and patching. Doug Turner, Chrome's director of engineering, stated that LLMs have fundamentally shifted cybersecurity economics, allowing automated vulnerability discovery. Microsoft also saw a record 570 flaws patched in June, citing its own AI use. Apple, however, has not shown a similar increase, patching 482 bugs in 2026, roughly on pace with previous years.
