Gemini Learns to Process Comments in Google Docs

Google is expanding the capabilities of its AI assistant Gemini within its office suite. Having already been able to generate images, diagrams, and infographics, Gemini now reads, understands, and acts on comments in Google Docs. It creates summaries based on comments, identifies key themes, action sequences, and unresolved issues that block project progress. Additionally, it can add new comments on behalf of the user and leave feedback in comment format. Another feature is publishing replies to open comment threads and attaching files from Google Drive to responses. Gemini can review comments and suggest changes based on feedback. However, it does not automatically publish comments or replies or modify documents itself; it drafts responses or edits for the user to approve. Access to these new features is through the Gemini side panel in Google Docs or the bottom panel with the Gemini logo. The features are currently only available to users on paid plans.
