Anthropic strengthens Claude's voice mode with business app integrations

Weeks after OpenAI deployed a new family of conversational models and updated ChatGPT's voice mode, Anthropic announced an update to Claude's voice mode, now capable of relying on more powerful models and interacting directly with multiple professional applications. Previously, the voice mode was mainly a conversational interface; now Anthropic aims to make it a full productivity assistant that can act on everyday business tools. The latest version is better suited for extended exchanges, supporting tasks like preparing sales presentations, getting feedback on oral communication, or brainstorming sessions. The key improvement is integration with third-party services: Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Canva, and Notion, allowing users to reschedule meetings, draft emails, or create Notion documents via dictation. Anthropic highlights this as a differentiator from competitors. Earlier this year, multilingual support was added in beta, but users must manually specify the language. This announcement follows OpenAI's recent enhancements to ChatGPT's conversational style, but Anthropic focuses more on workflow integration than conversation quality. Available in beta on all Claude platforms, the voice mode restricts free accounts to the Haiku model and one external integration, while paid subscribers get more powerful models and more integrations. Anthropic notes this update does not rely on a new voice engine, so improvements are in underlying model capabilities and tool access, not in interruption fluidity or conversational naturalness, areas where OpenAI continues to invest.
