NASA Sends Google's Gemma 3 Language Model to Orbit

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory conducted the first on-orbit demonstration of Google's vision-language model Gemma 3, which analyzes images from satellite sensors. The NAVI-Orbital system runs a compressed 4-bit version of the model and achieved 88% accuracy in image classification without specialized training.
