Sound Waves Give Neuromorphic Chips an Edge in Mimicking the Brain
New research proposes using sound waves in neuromorphic devices to better mimic biological neurons. These acoustic synapses, based on phase bits (phi-bits), can operate faster and more energy-efficiently than electronic counterparts. In an iris classification test, the device achieved 96.7% accuracy while consuming no more than a tenth of the energy of modern electronic neuromorphic systems.
