Moonshot AI (Moon's Dark Side) has released its new Kimi K3 model with 2.8 trillion parameters, claiming it offers competitive performance while reducing deployment costs. The model uses a Mixture of Experts (MoE) architecture and reportedly achieves performance comparable to GPT-4o and DeepSeek-V3.

Chinese AI open-source models are gaining global traction. On July 27, Moonshot AI open-sourced the full weights of Kimi K3, which quickly topped Hugging Face's overall trend list, followed by Baidu's Unlimited OCR. Unlimited OCR also achieved four first-place rankings on GitHub and Hugging Face, and later returned to the top of Hugging Face's global model trend list after a month, driven by sustained developer adoption.
