Lee Jae-yong and Sam Altman discuss Samsung-OpenAI cooperation in AI and semiconductors

Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman held talks at OpenAI's San Francisco headquarters on January 25. OpenAI did not disclose specific topics, but industry observers believe discussions centered on deepening collaboration around high-bandwidth memory (HBM), dynamic random-access memory (DRAM), advanced wafer foundry, and other AI infrastructure. They may also have discussed digital transformation solutions for Samsung's entire business line using generative AI. Samsung Electronics, a top-tier global enterprise customer of OpenAI, has already decided to grant all employees access to ChatGPT and the AI code tool Codex.
