Outshift by Cisco proposes a horizontal architecture for multi-agent systems, adding a semantic layer called 'Internet of Cognition' to enable agents to share intent, context, and reasoning. This addresses the failure of current multi-agent systems to coordinate on novel problems without human intervention.
Outshift by Cisco, a division of Cisco, is developing technologies to enable distributed artificial superintelligence through multi-agent systems. Their approach adds a semantic layer, the 'Internet of Cognition,' built on a connectivity layer called 'Internet of Agents.' The connectivity layer, implemented as the open-source project AGNTCY under the Linux Foundation, allows agents to discover each other, verify identity, and exchange messages across domains. The semantic layer enables shared intent, context, and reasoning. Outshift also created an open-source coordination protocol Mycelium, which in tests improved decision-making success from about a third to 93%. A cognition fabric provides shared institutional memory, and cognitive amplifiers and guardrail technologies like Continuous Agent Semantic Authorization (CASA) ensure security and alignment. The goal is to allow teams of agents to solve problems none were individually trained for, without human coordination.
